Notarisation of deaths

Notarisation of deaths

If a person dies in Olsberg, the death is notarised by the Olsberg registry office. The basis for this is the death notice, which contains personal details as well as information on the exact place and time of the death.

With regard to the medical part, the medical death certificate is decisive, in which a doctor provides binding information about the place and time of death.

In almost all cases of death, a funeral director will take care of the formalities. The funeral directors submit the necessary documents to the registry office and receive the death certificates. The death must be reported to the relevant registry office no later than the third working day after the death has occurred.

The following are required

  • Notification of death
  • Medical death certificate
  • Proof of the last place of residence
  • Civil status certificates (birth certificates, marriage certificates, possibly death certificate of the partner)

If a funeral parlour takes care of the formalities, it is not necessary to attend in person.

The notarisation of the death is free of charge. Death certificates issued for legal purposes, such as for funerals, health insurance or pensions, are free of charge. Fees are only charged if additional certificates are required.
The first certificate costs 10 euros, each additional certificate 5 euros.
