Description of services

The town of Olsberg, as the school authority of the school attended, assumes the necessary transport costs to the nearest school within the framework of the NRW School Transport Costs Ordinance, irrespective of the pupil's place of residence.

The school authority is obliged to bear the costs necessary for the most economical transport of pupils.


Eligibility requirements

As a rule, pupils are entitled to reimbursement of school travel costs if the shortest route to school (= walking distance from home to school) is one-way for pupils at primary school level.

  • primary level

primary schools (grades 1-4) more than 2.00 km

  • Secondary level I

of lower and intermediate secondary schools (grades 5-10)
and grammar schools (grades 5-9) more than 3.50 km

  • Secondary level II

grammar schools (grade 10, introductory phase EF) more than 3.50 km,
grammar schools (grade 11 or Q1 and 12 or Q2) more than 5.00 km

This also applies to pupils in the corresponding classes at special schools.

Furthermore, it may be necessary to cover the cost of travelling to school for health reasons that affect the journey to school on a more than temporary basis.

Pupils who do not attend the nearest school must cover non-essential travel costs themselves.


Payment of a distance allowance

If it is not possible for the pupil to use public transport, the school authority can organise a special transport service for pupils or grant a travel allowance for the use of a (private) car. The compensation amounts to €0.13 per one-way journey.
